House between a Park and a Forest / Bhartia Residence

Set on a large lot in South Delhi, this was a residential project on an institutional scale. Designed for two families to live side by side, with distinct needs and requirements. The brief was to create two abutting buildings that house very disparate programs and yet externally give the appearance of a single building.

Located on a busy thoroughfare in the Kailash hills area, the site is located between a very large municipal park across the street and an ancient scrub forest to its rear.

The design was an attempt to create maximum versatility in the program whilst also maximizing the views to the greens surrounding the site. Structurally the challenge was to meet the many functional and aesthetic requirements –including surface parking, ceiling heights, and complex network of services while fulfilling the complex and often contrary functional and aesthetic requirements.
