We were invited by IHCL to design the landscape of newly renovated Connaught Hotel, siting inthe heart of New Delhi. The hotel now falls under the umbrella of IHCL SeleQtions.
The hotel sits on a tight lot, with not much ground to design a sprawling garden. As a result, our strategy was to elevate the sense of green by incorporating planting at various levels. Our site doesn’t boast of expansive landscape views, but instead highly curated garden experiences as created as the user traverses through various pockets of the building. Starting from the front boundary, the planting is done in layers with each row of planting increasing in height The entry drop off porch has a bold chevron pattern in steel grey granite, through playing up the texture, complemented by a curtain creeper falling from the terrace above.
The pool is enclosed in a movable custom design screen wall with built in planters to provide visual privacy, A variety of flowering and fragrant creepers are planted in the screen wall for a sensorial stimulation as one passes through the screen. The feature wall with back lit carved stone discs, behind the pool forms a backdrop to the pool as well as a culmination of one’s gazewhen sitting in the restaurant on the opposite end.
